Is it bad to leave an ipod next to an unshielded stereo speaker?

that's a pretty vague question, but if you can avoid doing so then you should keep it away from any magnetic sources you can (unless it is a shuffle or nano -- flash players aren't affected by magnets).

Well, it is a 20gb ipod (it has a hard drive), and I'm running out of desk space. The farthest I can keep the ipod from the speakers is about 1.5feet, while still being in reach of the USB and power cables(it's either there or on the floor). Is there something I can place between the Ipod and the speaker to reduce the magnetism?

The speaker is about 14" high and about 8" wide. I can't find a picture of the exact model, but it looks like this:

  6. At very minimum, it will magnetize your case which is undesirable. Avoid it.
