    Delete your library. Drag all your songs in.

    (That's how I'd do it.)

    Exactly.
    As far as I know, you can't do that without alot of un-needed steps. Hence, me now using Winamp.
    Plus, in Itunes, if you delete a playlist, you delete the actual song from your fucking hard drive.

    you're right. that would be :greddy: if that actually happened.

    i was certain that wasn't the case but hadn't deleted a playlist in quite a while, so i just tried it to see what happened.

    guess what?

    yep. my songs are still there in the library listing...and they're still on my hard drive where they were before deleting the playlist that included the songs.

    somebody needs to buy a clue. :mamoru:

    To answer your original questions... :o

    A lot of us own iPods, but few of us read every thread in the main forum any more.

    To add a whole folder....

    File ==> Add Folder to Library...

    To find Duplicate Files...

    Edit ==> Show Duplicate Songs...

    Also, from the Help Files (Help menu)...

    "Copying your audio files to a central location

    Depending on how you've added songs to iTunes, your library might include songs that are located anywhere on your computer's hard disk or other media. To organize your files, you can choose to place a copy of all the files in your music library in the iTunes Music folder in the iTunes folder (in you My Music folder).

    Choose... Advanced ==> Consolidate Library.

    Any song files that are located outside the iTunes folder remain in their original location; copies of them are placed in your iTunes folder.

    With all your music in one place, you can more easily copy it to a new computer or back up your music library to an external disk or other media."

    To find missing songs listed in your library that have missing files, just look in the very first column of your song listing in your library. If you see a white exclamation point inside of a black circle, then the file for that song is missing.

    Does it? I don't think I've ever noticed mine doing this.

    Well I certainly did something that deleted almost all of my music. No, I'm not a software tard. No, that wasn't my only gripe with it, but it pissed me off.

    Well...

    when you delete songs from a playlist, it will ask if you want to remove the songs from your computer too. You most likely misunderstod or just didn't bother to red that message and just chose the wrong option.
