What are you looking to do? Just organize some pictures or are you looking for something much more robust like Lightroom or Aperture?

well depends and what you need/how you use it. I don't use it very much, but it is nicely integrated with the rest of the iLife suite. Works good for me, although I'm not much of a power user, if that's even the term I'm looking for. I don't doubt Aperture or Lightroom is WAY better for professional photographers.

cool, it does everything i could want from an image management program and then some

it serves its purpose and is integrated pretty tight with the OS and ilife.

i see no downside unless you just absolutely need something like lightroom or aperture. other than that, it probably does everything that the average user needs just fine.

He also might want to consider that lightroom costs $300 and if he's just organizing photos, that might be a little silly.

    nothing major.

iphoto is too slow for me, just wondering if there is anything that is faster

that configuration doesnt have enough nuts, especially if you arent using leopard and the most current iphoto. it has been optimized big time in the newest version. i am not telling you to run out and buy a new computer, but at least bump up your ram and upgrade all your software....
