I don't really know a lot about Apple's products, iTunes, etc. Got an iPhone. Only way I can figure out to copy music to it is syncing. But whenever I sync it wants to copy EVERYTHING from my phone onto my computer to "back up" my phone. It also always wants to update my contact list and do stupid shit like that.

How can I make it so when I sync only music is updated but nothing else? Or how can I copy music without syncing?

In iTunes, click on the iPhone on the left hand side. You'll see a bunch of tabs on top. Click on them, then uncheck all the things you don't want to sync/update. It's probably a good idea to sync contacts and calendars though, just in case something happens. But once you sync over your music, then every time afterwards, it will only sync the newest stuff to the phone
