Not worth it to me. I would love to have a Terminal app, though. No way Apple will allow it. But I'm keeping mine legit

Only reason I'm looking forward to jailbreak is for summerboard. I'd like to have an actual wallpaper as opposed to just a black screen. Other than that, everything else is good.

Did the original iPhone have tethering once it was jailbroken?
I mean, not just by jailbreaking itself, but installing some kind of app that allowed tethering.

I would like tethering to my MBP, but I heard ATT will fuck you over if you use more than 5 GB of bandwidth. An irc app would be nice also.

If they offer unlimited data, how could they possibly charge you for going over a certain amount? I believe they would do it, but it doesn't seem right :hs:

It's considered "excesssive" usage. Just what I've read though.

Nope you agreed to it in the contract. In some cases Verizon has cancelled peoples contracts for exceeding it and charged them the early termination fee. AT&T charges you some crazy price per MB over the limit.

I know you agree to it in the contract, but in their brochures and website and just about anywhere else, they do state unlimited data. That's what I mean by false advertisement. I know there's a limit, but some naive people might not. oh well

Its more of the fact that it says that the unlimited does not apply to tethering to a computer. They figure you can only use that amount of data if you're tethering and therefore since that is not part of the contract, they screw you for it.

If you're using more than 5gb, what the hell are you doing? haha.

As someone else said that unlimited is for non-tethered data. The contract also states that "unlimited" means within reason. They don't consider more then 5GB within reason. Contract also states they can terminate your service at any time without reason. Not much you can do about it other then not tether or pay for a tethering plan if you plan to.

I think some people try to tether with their phone and then let torrents go overnight or something. If I was tethering my phone to my computer and it wasn't allowed it'd be just for checking something quick online (which it's an iphone, so just use that anyway) or downloading a file from email really quick if you don't have it on your laptop already.

Understandable. Many people would just use it for quick things but there'd be plenty of kids using them for leeching torrents and that's likely what ruins it for everyone.

Is it really ruining it for everyone? I don't think they'd really let people do it because it's something else they can charge for. But I'm sure there will be a way to do it again, just that the smart people won't get greedy with it and screw themselves over.

The reason the cap is in place is because they abuse. The cap applies to the PC data cards too.

There will be a way to tether again and once again there will be some people that will abuse it and get the rest of us fucked over cause of it.
