I need a car charger for my 3g since i get half a day of battery life with moderate use. What's a good one since I read many first gen chargers do not work? It would be nice if it had an FM transmitter too. One that works and doesnt suck.

The chargers that may not work are ones with FM transmitters and stuff built in. My 3rd gen iPod car charger cost just $4 and works fine with my iPhone too.

I was getting shitty battery life too.

I turned off a bunch of shit and now I can go all day long w/o a charge.

Bluetooth, wifi, location services are all off. I also dimmed my screen to about 25% up on the bar.

So you turn off most of the new stuff you just paid for?

I turned off Wifi and gained some fairly significant battery life. 3G is fast enough for most things ;)

Edit: The 3G iPhone only charges off the 5V USB power line, not the 12v Firewire anymore, so some chargers and most in-car iPod cables won't work for charging.
