One of my sites I use Invision Power Board and its awesome to control and usability. But when it gets busier (150 people on at once) it kills my server and site goes down. Does anyone know any tweaks or ideas to help?

100 people online on a forum thats hosted on a shared hosting is never a good thing.

I know, now I have to convince the other guy (who knows nothing about servers/hosting/ anything technical) that his paycheck is about to get cut.

Yeah, upgrade to a dedi. I have a pretty busy forum on a dedi from host gator. Get an unmanaged one for $75/mo instead of 174/mo. & There's some stuff you can do in SSH to tweak it a bit for performance. My forums crashed a few days ago on the server 'cause of too many visitors, so had to tweak apache.

    Wirelessly posted via wap.offtopic.com (BlackBerry8830/4.2.2 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1 VendorID/105)

Were do you find unmanaged servers on hostgators site?

You'll have to e-mail [email protected]
it's not listed on their pages, but they offer it.

keep in mind, you'll be charged like 50/hr if they have to help you with anything on the server besides setup. :o

I have vB and on a shared server. My forum get about 50-200 members on all the time. I've never had an issue regarding number of users online with vB and the current host.

Free updates, and tech for the life of the site.

It's actually 160 for a license + initial 1 year of updates/support. Then, it's 30 a year for unlimited downloads and support once that initial 1 year of updates and support run out.

    its free.

Not sure about the stress it puts on a server.
