I dunno if it's just me but I need to have interved y-axis to even be able to play a game. All but 1 of my friends plays normal, up is up, down is down, and all think I'm weird for playing inverted.
I have no idea how I formed this. Some people say it is something that is conditioned and some say it is something psychological, introvert vs extrovert. Some people say it all started with Nintendo's inverted controls in the N64 FPS such as Goldeneye.
I think this is true for me. I played Goldeneye all damn day back then, and playing Starfox too which was inverted.
[IMG]This is me. I feel like I am controlling their head, not actually being inside the person's head.

What are you theories of why certain people play inverted vs normal.
It is a strange thing to think of. Some people can play both fine, some only normal and some only inverted. I absoutely need inverted otherwise I can't play.
I do play normal on the PC tho.

I play normal but can do alright on inverted after a few minutes of getting used to it again. Flying games should ONLY be played inverted though

Take a dummy head and poke a stick through the back of its neck. When you control the stick to move his head up you push down and to move his head down you must pull up, so when you play normal are you seeing it like you are actually that person walking around in real life?

I used to play inverted but I have noticed I have been leaning toward normal. This may be due to my gradual shift from console to PC over the years, but I like to think it's due to my view that I'm not controlling the head of the character I'm playing but their eyes. Only in z-axis games (like Star Fox, Ace Combat, etc) do I religiously play inverted as it's closer to actually flying the vehicle.

N64 controller was different because it put the y-axis on the left.
I played a lot of Third Person RPGs like Mario and Crash, and Banjo, those had inverted camera angle controls and since then I always look at the person from the Third POV. What about games that have both Third Person angle and FPS, I think GTA, Mass Effect are like this?

Third Person viewpoints with a joystick I can understand as it was the N64 era that really pushed me towards inverted controls. Nowadays I stick with normal controls for third person games.

Normal on console and PC. Goldeneye was one of my top played games of all time. Might have spent more time playing that than anything else. I don't remember if I played inverted on it. I know I didn't use default controller settings.

I think it has more to do with the association that up actually means up and down actually means down vs am in in their head or am i watching them.

lol, I totally agree. I think they changed it because it was to help the noobs. I remember it being inverted b/c of the flight simulation games. But now people just got noob and switched it back.

Well I at first played it inverted, but now that I'm playing a lot more FPS I'm getting used to the normal controls. It's just easier then switching around controls all the time.
