ya, could be the router or the modem

best way to find out is to bypass the router (plug modem straight into PC)...and see if it behaves the same way...make sure you powercycle the modem when you do this (unplugging power for 1 minute).

I use to see this issue alot of times, and often enough it was the router acting up

powercycling a modem and router is not unusual, but if this happens ever 10 minutes...ya there's a problem somewhere

if you bypass the router, and it's still doing that, give them a call and let them know the router's out of the equation and that's still going on, they should be able to send you a new modem or a tech depending on what the issue is

Are those known to over heat? lol I have one and have shit internet problems. It will stop working for a while and I usually have to disconect everything and plug it back in for it to work. I also saw the post below this and have a linksys router... is it time to replace my modem and router?

First I'd disconnect the router and connect straight to the modem to see if that fixes the problem. If so, the problem is the router. If it remains, call the cable company (or phone company, depending on what you have for broadband) and have them replace your modem.
