a few months ago i started having trouble with the sound on my computer, itunes and internet sounds specifically. since then i've been able to fix my itunes sound but still can't get internet sound (youtube, myspace music, etc.) to work. i've tried uninstalling flash player but couldn't find it and when i try to update my firefox it just searches forever and doesn't install anything. anyone have ideas about what i should try to fix the sound for my internet?

Try going to control panel > internet options > advanced tab >
scroll down and make sure there's a check mark in the
"play sounds in web pages" box.
    Apply > ok > exit.

If that's not the problem, then go into control panel > system > hardware tab > device manager >
and look to see if you have any yellow question marks in there.
If you do, you need to reinstall your audio drivers.

Start > control panel > sounds and audio devices > under the
audio and voice tabs, make sure the correct defaults are set for your hardware.

Also, try doing a quick double click on the speaker icon in your toolbar.
See if anything there has been muted.

Double click the speaker icon in the toolbar again, and go into options > properties > and make sure all the boxes in there are checked.

I don't know what else to check. You say you get the youtube video,
    but just not the sound?
The itunes you mention. Is that something that plays in a website,
    or that you download?

    itunes is downloaded...

That means you really aren't getting any sounds from websites at all.

You're using internet explorer, correct? Have you tried firefox?

Oh geez, I missed that. Some of that stuff I mentioned only applies to ie.

With firefox, you can just uninstall it and reinstall it.
Then visit youtube, click on a video and let it install the flash player applet.
    Simple as that.

If you're getting sounds in files that are already on the computer but
not from online, then it sounds like a routing issue.
You have to make sure that the sounds and audio devices settings are
correct. Double check them to be sure.

How about your soundcard/speakers. Is everything for sure plugged in
    correctly?
Have you tried uninstalling the soundcard driver and reinstalling it?
Maybe the manufacturer site has an updated one you can try?

I would try downloading new audio drivers - deleting the old ones and installing the new ones too.
