I need help here at work fixing a customers computer. The computer has internet connectivity, but web pages will not display and I cannot update antivirus/spyware programs to give it an updated scan. I tried a windows repair to see if internet explorer was corrupt, but the problem still exists.

Also, when I double-click on internet explorer on the desktop a shortcut to internet explorer will appear. If I keep doing it the entire desktop will fill with shortcuts.

    Any ideas?

open windows explorer and just type an address into the address bar.
Check the hosts file to see if there are any entries in there preventing access to antivirus sites

Have you tried pinging anything? Just because you have network access doesn't mean you have internet access.

I can ping...and I will try the other option in a moment. The system is currently downloading windows updates which I am hoping will fix the issues.

Fixed problem. Norton had a firewall that was blocking access...uninstalled and good to go!
