I brought my macbook over to my friend's house the other day, and when I brought it back to my dorm I am not able to connect to the internet anymore. When I open up the Network, this is the message that is available:

"Airport is connected to the network NIUWireless. Airport has a self-assigned IP Address and may not be able to connect to the internet."

Any suggestions? I have tried turning off airport and just connecting via ethernet but even that will not work.

    All help appreciated, thank you.

    Location:
    Bay Area
    System Preferences > Network
    Choose Airport
    Choose Configure

under the "Airport" button: "by default, join: Automatic"
under the "TCP/IP" button: "Configure IPv4: Using DHCP"
then press the "Renew DHCP Lease" button

see if that fixes it, then make sure the Ethernet options are the same under the DHCP setting.

I went through my preferences and they were set up exactly the way you described to have them. I'm thinking it has to do with the self-assigned ip address for airport, is there a way of changing that?
