Either way. They're both about the same.. one with a case, one without...

As for leaving it on... Yeah, I have one hooked into my home server all the time. It stores my music and movies, so that when I want to take it with me, I just unplug and go.

For easy portability, I have one in an enclosure.

start > right click my computer > Manage > Disk Management.

usually a wizard will then pop up asking if you want to initialize the disk.

Get ya a laptop drive instead. Makes data transfer and portability much easier... I use a few of these to transfer images from home to site to site... Much smaller and only one cable, powered via the USB cable...
