I finally found one! Highly useful since my motherboard doesn't have enough USB headers to run all of my built-in USB shite. This little baby is designed to be hung in a PCI slot and pointed towards the outside, but I opted to remove the slot hanger and bolt the board to the bottom of my case using a couple of 1cm standoff screws. I'll post a pic when I get everything hooked up; in the meantime, here's where you can get one if you need it, as well as a second link to a site that sells USB cables with a rectangular plug on one end and motherboard-style header pins(!!!) on the other end.

why wouldn't you just add a usb2 pci card?

Because I need the ports on the inside of the case. Can't do that with a PCI card.

There are several PCI USB cards that have internal ports. When I was at CompUSA awhile ago getting one I noticed this. They are listed as #+# with the second number being the quantity of internal ports.

I remember because I was getting one so my external drive would be able to run on USB 2.0 instead of 1.1 and saw the cards with internal connectors. I initially thought of mounting my external inside my case (would have done since I was maxed on internal drive number and volume).

As for the cable you have, I have never seen one of those (never looked either); pretty cool though.

Yeah, but there are none that give me four internal ports. And adding two cards with four external ports each, just so I can get the ports I need on the inside, is just messy. It costs more too.

I explained why. Headers on the outgoing ports would have been more useful to me than rectangular jacks, which is something I had to work around. 5 eggs for existing at all, minus 1 for not being exactly what I always dreamed of.

I must be missing something. I had a pci usb 2.0 card that had external outs as well as a hookup for front panel header, and that was like 2 years ago.

I only see two front panel header connectors in there. Mine had two, also.

Okay, here's a pic of what I did.

It's getting to be a very full case. All I can say is thank Corsair for their modular PSU cables that actually work right.

One drive bay left...what could I possibly add that I don't have yet?

what exactly are you using USB for inside the case? it's been a while since i've built my own PC, so i can't think of any reason that i'd be using USB internally.

The memory card reader takes two USB ports (one for the cards and one for the USB passthru), the portable hard drive just below it takes a USB port (because that's the cheapest way to get hot-swap functionality), and the silver panel at the bottom covers up two more USB ports. My motherboard only has two front-panel USB headers, so one of them goes to the portable hard drive and the other goes to the 4-port hub; from there, two of the hub's ports go to the card reader and the other two will (eventually) go to the front-panel USB ports on the case.

The special cables I needed to connect the front-panel USB ports are shipping from Malaysia :ugh:, so it's going to be a while before it's all sorted. But the hard part's done at least.

If anyone's curious, yes I drilled the holes in the bottom of the case with the computer fully-assembled. :noes: How'd I do it? It's a steel case, so I stuck an old hard drive magnet on the drill bit to catch all of the shavings, and not a single one fell inside the case. Can't do that with your fancy aluminum cases! :big grin:

Now that it looks like Blu-Ray is going to win, yeah, I just might.

Of course, I still only use my CD burner to make Linux boot CDs, so I probably won't be missing much if I don't upgrade.
