If you are calling the brady group for gun info, shouldn't you be calling the KKK for info on african-americans? Otherwise if you call them about the NAACP should you call the brady group for info about the NRA/gun lobby

It's because the only face we have for policy lobbying is the NRA.

The NRA isn't the best of public faces.

Someone could create an apolitical firearms policy research institute that does nothing but analyze all things related to firearms. That'd solve the issue.

They'd never get funding though and if the NRA gave them any money they'd just be seen as an NRA puppet.

but if the brady campaign gave them money without being public accused of being afraid of what they might uncover, then it might be seen as a brady puppet.

the only way it would work is to get major new coverage claiming that the NRA and the Brady camp are both afraid of what they might discover and force them both to fund it for PR reasons. We aren't scared are you? type of deal.

We could call it the federal bureau of investigation and every year they could release some sort of uniform crime report that would tell us if rifles really are killing tons of us citizens each year.

The real statistics are out there if anyone cares to get them. A lot of media going to be biased to the anti side though and would just as well get a quote from the brady bunch and then one from cletus.

the CDC and DOJ did a study on gun control:

The U.S. government “found insufficient evidence to determine the effectiveness of any of the firearms laws or combinations of laws reviewed on violent outcomes” (1) and also concluded in one study that none of the attackers interviewed was "hindered by any law--federal, state or local--that has ever been established to prevent gun ownership. They just laughed at gun laws." (2)
