    I ran across this on a local gun forum. I searched for credibility and it seems like it's in a few different papers and documents, so I apologize if it's a repost.

    Chicago reports 443
    NY 494
    DC 181
    Detroit 394

    Looks like 10% to me.

    That's one thing I didn't check was the date this was drawn up. Damn you, Soybomb, and your fact finding.

    Point still stands. Just not as much..

    That's still 1 in 10 murders nationwide that didn't actually happen because there aren't any guns in those cities and nobody ever breaks the law.

    It still might be worth finding the original citation as it might actually be a valid statistic when you say include all murders not just in chicago but also in cook county because cook county has their own assault weapons ban, etc. The surrounding counties/cities of a big city can really alter statistics just by their inclusion or exclusion. This may still hold true if someone went to the extra work

    I'm guessing the fact was from some time closer to '01 since it's noted that Detroit dropped their ban that year.
