This is what happens when you hit the gas hard in an EVO X....

I knew the internet was going to have a field day with this one.

He had to do something wrong to get it to break like that...

I can easily see plastic that thin breaking over time with just normal use. Why did they go all cheap and use plastic in the first place? It can't cost that much less then the cheap stamped metal they usually use. That thing isn't much thicker then a toothbrush handle.

And the fact that Mitsu tried to claim they had proof he was racing at first and void his warranty was a total bitch move. Mitsu has a history of trying to pull shady shit like that to avoid warranty repairs. I can understand many of the warranty claim issues as they have lots of claims due to the general wanna-be racer boys that drive their cars but they need to find other ways to deal with those situations.

Nah. Look at the break line. It's not smooth, like the plastic got brittle and snapped when he pegged the gas. It's stretched, like he really wailed on it a bunch of times until it tore it apart.

Also, it's definitely possible that they have that kind of info. The ECU stores historical data about how the car was driven. If they pulled that data and saw a bunch of WOT readouts and redlined engine RPMs, then that would suggest he was beating on the car.

But yeah, it's still a bitch move. The gas and brake pedals are required by federal law to be unbreakable, and that plastic shit definitely doesn't qualify.

a friend of mine bought a mitsubishi and I laughed at him. He always asks "this is a nice car, right?" everytime someone gets in it. Deep down, I think he knows he made a bad move. But what I don't understand is why: when his gf needed a new car, he bought her a mitsubishi. Fucking idiot.

Yes, most new cars, including Porsche, Audi, BMW, etc.

Well the title stated it jokingly, but it really is a good way to save weight and still be cost effective. Most lightweight metals are expensive to produce, even when mass produced. A strong polymer or other type of hard plastic that isn't too brittle is way cheaper and if used correctly can be just as effective in the right application. It looks like they just need better quality control?

 mitsu may become like VW: decent looking cars, inside and out, just not too reliable. The new Outlander and Lancer, even in non EVO X trim, are pretty nice. But I wouldn't be surprised if Mitsu's less than reputable reliable strikes 'em in the ass

I'll take a Mitsubishi far before I'd touch a VW for reliability.

The Outlander and regular Lancer are doing fine, afaik. The others aren't blowing up either (although the Galant got hit with the ugly stick....again :ugh:)
