In Israel if a cop sees an obvious suicide bomber pre-detonation, that bomber will get one in the head. For obvious reasons.

Remember the dumb MIT freshman chick at Logan airport last week? Those of you who may have forgotten, she went up to a ticket agent, asked about an arrival flight (not in yet) then went outside to wait. Meanwhile she was wearing some kind of vest. A circuit board strapped to her chest. Wires all over. and she was holding some play-dough. The ticket agent called the cops and they arrested her and she was all "WTF did I do?"

    My question:
    1) Would you as a CCW-holder be justified in popping that chick if you saw her? Think about it. There you are, minding your own business. Suddenly you see a suicide bomber enter a crowded building. I'd say that qualifies under "fear that your life or that of others is in imminent danger."

    2) What sort of public/media reaction do you think there would have been if someone had done that?

    3) Same as question 2, but if a cop had done it?

    :dunno: :noes:

I think you would only be justified (as a CWP holder) if the bomb was authentic.. I feel that a mistaken indentity/fake weapon/etc error is only allowed to LEO's.. they'd prosecute any normal civilian.

Not to mention it's a felony to carry a firearm into an airport (and frowned upon carrying on airport property) reguardless of a CCW.

Ben - If a reasonable (average) person can't tell the difference even up-close, then how would they prosecute? What charge? Manslaughter maybe I guess.

00600: Only if you go through security. If you're on the unsecured side you're okay. Edit: at least in TX.

    Also - holy lurker!

UNTRUE. It's against the law to carry a firearm into the "secure" portion of an airport that's under TSA control. The main lobby, pre-security doesn't matter.

And FWIW I wouldn't do it unless they were threatening and honestly felt my life in danger. When you're an LEO you have the city/county/state to pay your legal fees.

If I fear that my life is in danger, I'm taking the shot.

Would just depend on what the particular situation is I guess

An article I read on it showed a pic, if that pic was what she was wearing it didnt even look like a bomb.

Now if someone 10 feet away from rips there jacket open and i see something that does look like a bomb and he starts yelling allah ackbar dirka dirka jihad I may consider taking the shot :o

:werd: thats what I thought when I first saw it, I wouldn't think its a bomb. More like some sort LED thing that lights up. I could whip up something much more bomb looking from my box of old pc parts.

I would feel justified to shoot if it looked like a vest bomb, and by law believe I would be. However, given that the US hasn't had the same history of dealing with that sort of threat, I'd fully expect to be hung out to dry.

I think a few SI bombers would have to blow up before I would have confidence that most DA's and jury of peers would find it reasonable to cap somebody simply for appearing to have a bomb.

Yeah not only does that not look like a bomb to me, but it also doesn't look like an "art project" either. It looks like someone duct taped the mess I left on the work bench to a shirt.

NO it isn't. It's a felony to carry past the security check point.

The job wasn't too bad honestly, the hiring methods how ever pretty brought in the lowest class of people... and being a government job, the promotion schedule made it so that I was basically stuck at the bottom, despite that I was one of the top performers, and one of the most knowledgeable screeners working at my airport.

In that situation, I would try to notify security. That girl should get some common sense though.

Okay. Let's modify the situation. You're staring at this chick wondering what to do and all of a sudden she's standing with her arms out to her side (like a T), eyes closed, with a button thingy in her hand.

 Granted. That shirt is pretty stupid but let's say it was a tad more realistic.
