In anticipation of the Amd crushing Conroe cpu, Intel is slashing the prices of the D 900 series of cpu's.
The D 940 which was in the 700+ dollar range is at $276 today on pricewatch, and dropping.

Anybody building a computer right now would want to take advantage of these killer dual core cpu's that have 2mb of cache per core, and are extremely overclockable.
At 3.2ghz from the factory, they can be pushed up close to 3.8ghz or so with some of the better air cooling availabe (7700 series Zalmans).
I saw a benchmarking of a D 950 that was overclocked to 4ghz, and it did
quite well against a fx60. The fx60 was faster, but not 700 dollars faster.

The D 940 is such a kickass deal that I'm scraping the Opteron single core build I was doing for my son, and going to one of these setups. Better performance for less money is a good thing.
