So today is the big day when Intel is set to slash prices on cpu's again.

Remember the chart prices are for x1,000 purchases, so expect single purchase prices to work their way down to around $10 up from the chart.

mWave has the full retail Q6600 for $279 plus @9 for shipping.

And they also have the E6850 3ghz core 2 duo for $271 for the full retail version (3 year warranty + heatsink and fan)

newegg has the Q6600 at $300 right now (before midnight), but I bet it comes down some more

and that E6750 will be an OCers dream

looking at the chart (and not up with the latest cores)...

why would you spend the $$$'s on a E6850 Conroe when you can hit up a Kentsfield Q6600 for the same price and get TWICE THE CORES ??

I'm lost... I know it says "TXT" ??? and it has 1333 FSB instead  but come on...

I'll take the 2 additional cores...

    depends what you're doing.

Me personally, I'll take the quad-core, too. But gamers will likely prefer teh dually -- at least for now.

the e6850 can be overclocked much higher
it's expected to be an easy 4.0GHz

this guy got it to 5.44GHz using liquid nitrogen to cool it :mamoru:
    http://www.digitimes.com/Backgrounders/ArtReview.asp?datePublish=2007/06/07&pages=VL&seq=211

the quad won't reach those speeds.

Intel TXT = Trusted Execution Technology
AMD call theirs SVM = Secure Virtual Machine.

I'm not sure how it works but from what I understand,.. it's for PC security.
It's good because it will protect you against virus, spyware, and other threats.
It's bad because it is a technology that can also be use against piracy (e.g. will make the RIAA happy).

I was thinking about a e6850 but they didn't cut the price enough for my liking. The q6600 is a possibility but the e6750 is so dirt cheap I might just grab one of those while i wait and see what happens :dunno:

I've been seeing where people are having good results overclocking the Q6600 as high as 4ghz.

I'm guessing it wouldn't even change the temps on one if you bumped it up to "just" 3ghz or so.

That's a heck of a lot of processing power for the @275 that they'll be within a week or so.

    $277

I ordered the Q6600 from newegg late Friday night. I was checking every half hour thinking they'd drop it early since the shipping times change and I didn't want it to sell out on me. I paid $300 for mine.

The cores on the E6850 are clocked higher. Even though there's two, most games won't use all four cores, and even if they do the E6850 is still typically faster. For gaming the E6850 is the faster processor.

the price on the Q6600 has been fluctuating wildly at newegg

they put it to 299, sold out, then 320, sold out

currently they have it at 345 and sold out

I don't see how there's even a debate between the 2. Q6600 and E6750 I could see if you were on a budget... but duo vs. quad for the same price?

The Q6600 is overclocking just as well as the dual cores.

So if the small difference in clock speed is the issue, get the Q6600 and just bump the speed up a few notches.

It looks pretty promising, but it wouldn't effect my purchase right now.

Maybe when the next round of cpu's is release along with a price cut.

But the Gigabyte version does look good.

    I will skip it too.
The advantages of it from P35 is mainly the dual PCI-E x16 and more DDR3 support. Those who want Crossfire (and rumored SLI) will love this. Not for me though.

Same here. I'm still dragging along my 7900GT card.

I'm not worried about SLI at all.

And DDR3 just isn't cutting it yet. It's actually getting beat on some benchmarks by DDR2.
