Hey OTers; I got a budget of 5k and I'm looking for a gas efficient car that can push out a good amount of horsepower. I was think of going with a black Integra LS 94-97, what you guys think? What car would you go with otherwise?

If you're looking to save money (gas comment) consider insurance as well. Not sure how high the Integra would be, in comparison to somethign a little mroe common like a Civic or a 240SX.

Anyways, Integra = decent gas mileage, average horsepower, moderately easy to build up, and a good daily driver. I can't see a problem as long as you can afford the insurance, which realistically shouldn't be all that much.

So your saying raise the price. Lets say the budget changes to 10k-15k (hopefully the down payment isn't that steep). What cars should I be aiming at? Evo? STI?

STI, Evo, came first in my head. :dunno:I checked some prices online and I couldn't find one for that cheap. An Acura rsx would be ideal, a friend of mine told me. 160hp stock :yum:

A picture I found of the net.

Yah, I figure the previous owners would have driven the car to shit. :squint: Hmm.

    Any car suggestions?

the rsx type s has 200 hp stock

integras are good cars though, my teg has 180,000 miles on it and im getting 25-30mpg.

you could get a gsr, but that might raise insurance a little bit

oh and dont get a teg if you are going automatic

in fact, dont get an automatic

  8. If you had 10-15k for a car I would suggest and Acura RSX-S because thats about all you can get in terms of reliability and sporty-ness for that price. I needed something that was good on gas and wouldn't be a drag to drive everyday so I got a 2003 Civic Si. Yeah 160hp is lame but its all I can afford in college now.

140hp for the LS, 175 for the GS-R. However, the LS' engine is actually stronger below 5000 rpm. The GS-R's engine comes in late and revs higher.

For $5k a teg is a great choice. I have a '95 LS sedan that I rack up 100+ miles a day on, it gives no complaint. If you could find a GS-R sedan, that would be the hotness. The hatches all tend to be beat on and/or riced out, unfortunately.

For $10+k you have all kinds of options. The most fun car you can buy for that money is a second gen Miata, that is if you're hardcore enough to have a roadster as an only car...

good amount of horsepower and good gas mileage don't mix. get two cars, a 3cyl geo for gas/insurance savings, and something else with your leftover $4000.
