I have a quick question. Sooo I just got a second computer and I need to put windows on it.

problem: I have 1 extra hard drive that is a 40gig that is half full of movies and mp3's and such. If I just installed windows 2000 on it would it reformat the drive so I would lose all my movies and shit? Or would It just install in a folder and not touch anything else on it. Please comment back ASAP!! I need to do this soon!

    Thanks a bunch!

    It would overwrite everything...

You can use PartitionMagic to split the disk into two partitions and install Win2K on the empty one.

Depends on what OS it was formatted with, if it's NTFS or FAT32 I believe win 2k handles FAT32 then you can just install it on the existing partition and save all your data.

I'm pretty sure it won't overwrite it - my boss thought it would be a good idea to reinstall windows 2000 overtop of 98, THEN when things started fucking up, he reinstalled 2000 overtop of THAT. All in attempt to save his data (which it did). It screwed up his OS horribly mind you...

in the win2k install.. u get the choice of formatting in fat32, formatting in ntfs or leaving the file system as is (as long as its fat32/ntfs to begin with)

Meh, IMO installing Win2K with FAT32 defeats half the purpose of Win2K.

Except that you can convert it anytime you want to NTFS... ;)
