Installing other OS on macbook

    I'd like to run knoppix for fun but how the hell would I boot the cd in a mac.. I mean no bios to set boot from cd...
    what to do, I'm a noob?

    Holding down C while it's booting up will boot it from a CD.

    As they suggested Bootcamp would be the answer, possibly even Parallels.

    well I want to try knoppix, so I don't want to use bootcamp/parallels for that..
    will try holding C

    i'd suggest parallels.... if you dont like it, then you can just delete the image afterwards.

    I tried to boot from my Vista install DVD while holding C, and it didn't even phase it. It worked with bootcamp though. good luck.

    but the point of knoppix is that is runs all from the cd/dvd. no installation needed, just have to boot from cd.. and parallels sucked when I tried it last night

    oh :dunno: seems like it will be slower than hell... how fast are the optical drives on the macbooks anyway?

    doesn't really matter, it mounts the OS as a drive.

    good luck booting things that bootcamp doesn't support. most OSes haven't rolled out support for EFI yet and still rely on BIOS cues, which means that intel macs are SOL for a native boot :hs:

    that will possibly change with leopard but I wouldn't hold my breath before then. Even MS deprioritized EFI support for Vista in the later stages of development, though I think some support roadmap exists still. :dunno:

    yeah, I miss being able to tweak some bios seetings on mac. oh well, I still :love: it anyway

    I guess I still don't understand why would would want Knoppix... it's Linux, which is basically OSX. :dunno:
