have you tried starting mysql manually? i.e. w/out using service?

It probably didn't install the scripts correctly, or the path is wrong. You'll have to set your $PATH variable to include the mysql/bin directory in order to get mysqladmin to work from anywhere.

I believe the files are in the /usr/share directory. SLED is right about the files being put in weird places..
