    Never seen this before.

    "film-reel" theme.

    Did I break it?

It's obviously not showing up in the themes tab.

Change your permissions on the "film-reel" directory to read/write.

What is "world" permission? That sounds dangerous. I don't know anything about permissions. I've done this same thing 10 times before and never had to change permissions before :dunno:

Be weary of themes that attempt to access files on your disc.

So you're saying I shouldn't use this theme, then? It this one attempting to access files on my disc?

    I really don't know what user/group/world/permissions/etc. are.

All my other themes in different folders (that work) are 644. Should I just nix this one?

I don't know. What are you using to extract that theme? Is that some version of WP that does it? Some type of control panel? Whatever that script is is trying to access your disc for whatever reason. If it's the theme doing it, I would scrap it.

That's hostgator's file management system. I upload the theme .zip folder into the themes directory and then use hostgator's "extract" function to extract it, and then it's supposed to show up in WP.

changing file permissions is something you don't need to do if using hostgator.

You don't need to change permissions or anything. It's just cPanel setup badly.

Don't use the cPanel file manager.. log in to Wordpress, go to Appearance, go to Add New Theme, go to Upload, find the ZIP file on your local machine, and click Install.

    Done. :)

extract the .zip that you downloaded onto your desktop, then open the new folder and select all the stuff and add into a new .zip

then enter your file manager and upload and extract into the needed directory.

and make sure you have the over-rite previous file/folder option checked in the upload screen before browsing for the new .zip and uploading it. :)

just because I'm curious... why are you uploading the .zip to hostgator and extracting there instead of logging into your wp install and choosing Add New Themes > Upload Theme?

more like why would you do either when it's easier to just unzip it on your computer and upload the folder through ftp
