Inspiron 8500 usb not being identified?

My brother just got a new Inspiron 8500, and I promptly reformatted it to get rid of all the shit Dell preloads.

I made a note to write down all the devices so that I would be sure and get the correct drivers for them. There is also a driver cd that comes with the laptop.

However, I have installed all the driver updates, and everything is installed properly except for an unidentified usb device. I told it to search for its driver on the driver cd, but no luck.

Does anyone have any idea what it may be?

I don't want to have to call tech support :o

Did you install service pack 1? (I am assuming you are using XP.) It sounds like that the laptop has usb 2.0 and usb 2.0 is only supported through sp1 in windows XP.

I did the same thing with a Dell Dimension. I used the resource CD to find all the stuff but it would not find the USB 2 drviers. I just left it becuase the ports worked w/o the drivers. :o
