I was given a Dell Inspiron 2650 the other day. It came to me not working.

When I turn in on, the hard drive and fans spin up for about 3 seconds then shut off. No display no nothing except that the power light stays on.

I was able to get the machine to boot by taking the RAM out of the the slot on the bottom (the other slot is under the keyboard).

I had a bunch of RAM laying around but no matter what RAM I put in the bottom slot it wont boot.

    Bad RAM slot??

The machine only supports 256 megs per slot so I'm stuck with 256 max right now.

I put XP on it and I'm actually impressed how quick it is with only that much though...

No big deal, but was wondering what else I can do to troubleshoot.
