I'm looking for a docking station for a Dell Inspiron 1501. Does one even exist for the Dell non-business models?

I have a 300m with a dock, so yes they do exist for non-business models.

I'm not sure they have a true docking station for the 1501... There are plenty of universal ones though.

They don't have docking stations for most Inspirons, but most Inspirons have Latitude cousins and you can install the Latitude BIOS to enable docking functionality.

Where do you plug it in then? Most I have seen have a special port on the bottom of the machine that it hooks up to...

Anyone had much luck with the universal docks? They don't seem to be getting good reviews from any website I've seen.

Oh, if you don't have a docking port, then you can't dock. Yeah, that's a problem.

A lot of the Inspirons I've seen, though, do have docking ports, but they're missing a hole for a latch to go into -- which is easily remedied by cutting the latch off the dock.
