Since January I've been really trying hard to watch what I eat and trying to exercise more. I stopped drinking alcohol all together for 5 months and managed to lose 32lbs (I used to weight between 215-220 and went down to a 186 low). I did this by just watching what I ate: no fast food, non fat milk, only water to drink (maybe sugar free energy drinks from time to time). For exercise I would ride my bicycle around for 45-60 minutes 3-4 times a week or run/walk.

Now that I'm down 30lbs, I want to go to the next step. I've also started drinking again How do you drink and diet? I've been trying to drink diet whiskeys instead of beer but it doesn't always work that way. I'm trying to eat different as well... egg whites in the morning, no energy drinks at all, no diary, protein shake for lunch (130 cal, 0g sugar, I'm told its not harming even if I didnt work out?), a salad somewhere in there and a can of green beans, sometimes two cans. I was told fruits aren't good for you, try to eat veggies only. For a work out I've been using the elliptical machine for 30 minutes (HIIT) and then hitting the weights before/after for 15-20 minutes(I'm told to lift first for better engery usage). I'm trying to go to the gym 4-5 times a week after work. I have a hard time with weights because my right elbow has only 60% motion (basically I'm one armed when it comes to weights)

I'm not trying to build muscle, I'm trying to lose fat

I've only been doing this new exercise program for a week and I'm sure the alcohol is the primary factor in my weight loss... I miss the night life! I'll be 196lb Sunday night and then Friday morning 189lb... The beer is killing me as well as the drunk munchies...

    Tips/suggestions/input?

:x:hopefully not added to fatmoocow's shit list

So when you don't drink you lose weight. When you do drink you don't lose weight.

    Hmmm...what to do?!

oh yeah drinking sure seems to be the problem here. never mind the fact you're starving your body by eating 600cals a day :ugh:

Is fruit bad because its "natural sugar"? I'd have an apple or peach for breakfast or at 10am as well...

I suppose what I mean by I dont want to build muscle would be the habits your form into doing so. I'm sure I miss understand them but for cardio is all I really see myself needing to do? I dunno?

as far as calorie count goes?
not enough of a specific type of food?
It might not look like a lot but I eat pretty plain, just a lot of one thing...

Like the other thread states, I know what my car gets MPG wise but I dont know what my body gets...

Thats why I posted... I lost 30lbs in 2-3 months... My weight hasn't changed since, I've been at an idle 190lbs the past 3 months. I think I could have been working out harder but I was still eating right and NOT drinking.

I guess I'll start monitoring it somewhat more.

I've read so much I'm not sure what to believe between my sister and my buddy that used to lift.

I'm going to go back to eating fruits... I cant see why thats bad... banana, peach, and an apple used to part of my snank/meal from 8am-noon. I stopped because I was told there was too much sugar in fruits?

You're making this harder than it needs to be. Asking if you can drink is like asking if you can eat apples.

You can eat apples, and you can drink, but if all or too many of your calories are comprised of apples or alcohol your body is going to look like a burlap sack full of gravy.

Track you actual diet and the breakdown of carbs, protien, sugar, fat, calories. Calculate how much sugar/carbs will be in you new diet w/alcohol and/or fruit and ask yourself is this likely to make me skinnier? Adding 100-300gs of sugar a day isn't likely to help you lose weight. But, if you are doing heavy squats and deadlifts instead of walking on a treadmill you may be able to make up for it.

The bottom line is that you must change something to drop more weight, most likely it need to be higher intensity lifting.

Btw fruit is not all bad as it's got fiber in it which slows digestion. But again, it matters how much you consume and when. Most guys I've seen that are super shredded eat less than 150gs of total carbs a day and most of that is post workout and not all sugar.

I'm 145-150, and I drink like 2-3 beers a night minimum, usually 6-10 on weekends.

I should probably cut back on that :hs:

Well after one week at the gym and better eating hahbits, I'm down 1%BF about the same in weight, if not less.

The first week at the gym I exercised incorrectly only because I wasn't quite sure where to start (poor excuse I know.) I saw a trainer (one free evaluation, more like a sales pitch if you ask me) and decided to just follow the work out plan stickied.

As far as eating goes I managed to get my friends old scale that he used when he was into body building. I'm eating alot of chicken (marinated in Italian dressing, then baked or broiled) basically because its easy access; cook a bunch and keep it in the fridge. For breakfast I'm trying to eat hardboiled eggs less the yoke and 1/2 - 1 cup of oatmeal and a protein shake. 10am I'll usually grab a 5-6oz piece of chicken. Noon I'll have a small home made salad with 1tbsp Italian dressing and another 5-6 oz piece of chicken. 2pm peice of chicken or another salad with a protein shake. for dinner I like to try and get a wrap from subway, turkey, all the veggies, no sauces w/cheese... is it ok to have Subway for a meal either at lunch or dinner? Or am I better off getting my own meat and using my own bread?

The workout side of it is very hard for me. I've damaged my right elbow really bad. I can't extend my arm all the way or bring it in all the way.Maybe it would be wise to get a trainer after all? Today when I worked my chest I went very light on the weights:
    1 sets flat db 14 reps: 15lbs
    3 sets flat db 14 reps: 20lbs
4 sets incline barbell 14 reps: lol just the bar 45lbs? (unsure of actual weight)
    3 sets incline machine 8-10 reps: 45lbs
    4 sets fly machine 14 reps: 45lbs
I didnt do the weight dips because of my injury
Entire work out took 20-25 minutes

Now after doing all that work, my arms feel like they got the work out :wtc:
I'm sure it will take some time but the more I think about it the more I wonder how beneficial a trainer would be but is it really worth the coin?

Afterward I went on the elliptical machine for 20 minutes with my heart rate on average 150.

Came home, had a bite of chicken lol and a protein shake and here I'am posting.

    AM I SETUP FOR SUCCESS?

I'll post some pictures of my injury shortly if some of you think you might be able to help.

Anyhow thats all.... Also signed up on FitDay
Still drinking... but slowly improving.. once a week if that...

CLIFFS: gym, new routines, hard to lift due to injury, diet questions, will this be a great success?
