    Hey guys, what do YOU think your incline should look like compared to the rest of your chest presses?

    I have heard you want your incline to be your strongest. Any truth to this?

    I just recently started taking incline serious after I've noticed my pecs look a little funny being developed alright in the middle, and not as much in the lower or upper :hs:

    Now, I have almost dedicated chest days to incline and have gotten a lot stronger since.

    I know it's bad because I've slacked on flat bench and dumbells, but I feel my chest is getting stronger overall. I still do all kinds of cable flys and wide grips though :dunno:


    I weigh 175 and last night on incline I got up 205 for my 4th set. Incline is my weakest, but I'm bringing it up for sure.

    What do you think?

    I've never heard of someone being stronger on incline than flat. It's a great exercise and will build your chest well. As far as ratios go, I did 405 touch and go incline when I was at about a 450-460 flat bench. Vincent Dizenzo hit a 545 incline right before he raw benched his 600. So if your shoulders are strong, they'll be closer. OTOH, Matt Rhodes struggles with 275 incline and has raw benched 475. The bottom line is not to worry about it, pay attention to YOUR ratio and try to get them closer. If they're already close, then just get stronger everywhere.

    depends how your body is. My chest grew fast from starting with lots of incline and flys. just lift bro

    I'm going to go ahead and assume you're not talking to me. Seeing as I can likely skull crush about the same as you deadlift, and I gave you a decent response, of course that was after I busted some balls.

    I'm actually not a big fan of incline because I get too much shoulder activation. In one of the F&N archives there's an article about how regular bench press gives more activation for the lower pectoral than decline bench press, and it gives only slightly less activation for the upper pectoral than incline bench but giving way more lower pectoral activation. I've found doing dumbbell flat bench is a really good builder for the lower and upper pec because you can rotate your hands 45 degrees, which is the optimal positioning for pectoral activation, and it puts less strain on your shoulder.
