I got info straight from the horses mouth. I met the head of product development for Nissan North America, and he told me it is confirmed Nissan will be releasing the next GT-R in the U.S. under the Infinity brand. It will be released around mid 2008, and pricing is still being negotiated he said it looks like around 85 grand.

    not known yet

they are aiming for a 7:45 or below on the Nordschleife

Motor is being built in conjunction with cosworth, should be able to handle 1000hp on a stock bottom end. Engine will be based on the VQ block, anywhere between 3.2 and 3.8 Liter capacity, twin turbo, with electric motors to spool the turbos at low revs, thus helping wit emmissions.

RWD/AWD, probably a refined version of the ATESSA system in the 34. handling is being tuned by Lotus.

styling wise, we have all seen the photos...and its :ugh:

Anyone who knows the head of product development would know how to spell Infiniti.

By met he bumped into him at Burger King. I would imagine that someone who really "met" a big wig at a popular car company would have a little more story to tell than some most likely false info about the new Skyline.

Never said I know the guy, sat next to him on a flight from LA to Japan. That's all he told me about the GT-R, which is some pretty good info, what more of a story would you want that already isn't known? Oh and excuse the typo, Infiniti...

AHAHAHA. I was pitching the idea of an eletrically motorized turbo for low revs. Every engineer laughed at me. Whose laughing now!!

Electrically assisted (motorized) turbos have been around for a while. After a quick search there are patents that mention them from at least 1989.

Did he have credentials or did he say he was head of whatever? I used to tell people stuff on planes all the time when I was younger and people ate it up because they wanted someone to talk to for the 2.5 hours they needed to sit next to them. Was I really a pro snowboarder or BMX rider? No, but they thought so.

If you think about it, there are so many applications for it.

Considering Nissan employees have sign confidentiality agreements, I doubt he told you anything, even he did sit next to you. Why would he risk his job for some dude he just met on a flight?

haha, no I didn't ask him for i.d. or credentials, but he was legit, he's been working for Nissan for about seven years, there was about four or five other Nissan guys along with him, we just got to talking about cars and thats how I found out what they all did. We were also joking about how the GT-R will be a Ferrari killer, and believe me, there was alot of stuff they wouldn't tell me, and I don't think the info I got would be considered "confidential."

Maybe the old 996 Turbo, the 997 Turbo might be a different story. And for 15k less you can buy a Z06 and be just as fast, but probably faster.

Nissans primary goal with the upcoming GTR is to beat the turbo, both straight line and around corners

the Z06R pulled a 7:45 on the Scheife

The new GTR will be faster

and then theres the N1 and Nismo variants...

I love the styling of the concept model, the car mags said it'll be a 3.8 but which I could completely see, should be really awesome to see that when it comes out.
