I am going to take my daughter to the doc tomorrow.. she does not want to take out the earring she was not complaing of it hurting but it was oozing a lot of pus. I cleaned it up as best I could. I did not take out the stud because I dont want it to heal up with the infection.

What should I be doing with her infected ear piercing? The other side is fine.

Should I put in gold hoops so it can drain and not be irrated by the backing of the post? Ideas? tips? Tricks? We have been keeping it clean.

What are you using to clean it? What type of jewellery? What material?

    What color is the pus?

The pus is yellow. We were using the stuff they gave us at the piercing place. She was wearing "gold" posts but they looked silver to me.

I just took them out and put in some gold loops because it seemed like the back of the lobes were more red then the front. When I took off the earring on the other side it had some discharge too.

Can the earings that they pierced with cause that type of irration?

Before I put the new earing in I soaked them in alcohol and I got a cotton balls and cleaned the front and back of the lobes.

Yellow pus is irritation not infection. I wouldn't even worry about a doctor visit. Keep the gold hoops in for now. Studs don't allow enough room for the piercing to breath, swell or drain. They're garbage.

Only clean her ears with soap and water during a shower/bath. Twice a day clean them with a sea salt solution. 1/8 teaspoon of sea salt mixed in 8oz of warm water. No alcohol or peroxide or "piercing cleaning solutions".

Thanks Buttons. She was so upset about the whole ordeal :( Its the most puss I have seen in a long time.

Why did it take 2 months for this type of reaction to pop up?

sounds like shitty jewellery is the cause. :dunno: Piercings are weird like that. I had a genital piercing for over 5yrs with no problems. One day I woke up and there was dark green discharge coming out of it like crazy. It just happens.

Oh and make sure she's not playing with them!! Biggest cause of piercings not healing is dirty hands all over them.

Should I use Tea tree Oil to try and try up the ear?

Nope. You don't want to dry it out. If it dries out and she happens to play with them it'll "crack" or tear the skin which you don't want.

Ok.. so the swelling has gone done a lot and its not oozing as much.. how long do you think it take for it to go back to normal?!

Is it like a fresh piercing? about 6-8 weeks?

Pretty much yes. Keep up the salt soaks until it stops discharging.
