is it possible to do this? I havent really talked to anyone, but I have 256 right now and I would like to get 512 or even 1GB in there to make it run better/faster. It is really slow with the 256 in it right now, but that could also be because of the Celeron processor.
So, actually two questions. Can I upgrade the RAM on my laptop and can I upgrade the processor to a P4 or a Centrino processor?
    Thanks

most laptops today have one empty sodimm slot. check your owners manual or the website for that brand laptop.

    Go to crucial.com

Find your laptop manufacturer and model. It should give you options on possible RAM upgrades. As for CPU upgrade, it depends on your motherboard. It would be best if you gave us the make and model of your laptop.

crucial.com says I can have up to 1024MB of RAM but it tells me that the only thing compatible with my laptop is another 256MB card, which should be fine. But I cant find anywhere that says if I can upgrade the processor to the P4.

For the processor, check on the Dell support forums. You'll be able to find the info there probably. It is a Intel 845GL chipset, FYI.

For memory, it has 2 SODIMM slots, and max's out at 1gb (there was some incorrect info published on the Dell site that stated it maxed out a 512mb). So for 1gb, you need 2 512MB SODIMMS of PC2100

so, if I got 2 512MB SODIMMS of PC2100, that would work with my laptop? When I searched for what was compatible with my Inspiron 1100, it just said that the 256MB was. Thanks for the info!!!

thanks man... is $87/piece a decent price or could I find cheaper elsewhere? And my laptop came with 256MB RAM instead of the 128 it usually comes with... thanks a lot for the info too

I have a stick of 256mb - Crucial 100mhz CL2 SODIMM (if that is the right type you are looking for). Came out of my Inspiron when I upgraded it. PM with reasonable offer if interested (not looking to get a whole lot for it, just collecting dust as-is).
