if you try it, you better put some stipulations on it

because otherwises you will get alot of one word or nonsense posts on the race to 1000 posts

and that will turn off new users seeing that shit

that's a good way to get 2 things

    1.) a plump looking forum

2.) a forum with mountains of useless info

but it never hurts to try I suppose. Honestly, I wouldn't be that enthused over $10 for 1000 posts on a forum I probably don't care much about. :o

Just post a bunch of JB. That's the best incentive.

You need to decide if you want to boost quality of posts, or quantity of posts. Then create a subscription model, say $10 for membership - and give away a set number of memberships. If you want quality posts, offer them for 'most insightful post of the week/month' - if you want quantity, offer them for the most posts made, or something similar.

Or a combination of the two.

That way you're technically giving people $10, but it's not actually costing you anything. You're also creating a new membership level that some people might pay for (if the perks are good enough).

Getting more members is a difficult thing - you've got to drive the traffic there yourself, and then have a busy and interesting enough board to keep them.

As a side note, looking at your site, watch how many forums you have. You've got 12 forums (not to mention additional subforums) and 63 topics. That's far too spread out. It's always easier to start as a free for all and then slowly break things apart when certain subjects are overly dominating an area.

i think you'd be the better one to answer..since its your forum.

what do you want your forum to be? start with that and eliminate everything else
