I don't know a whole lot about LCD TV's. I just know I want something newer than my old tube style TV. I'm wanting to keep it below the $1200 range if at all possible. What all should I look for? Brands to stay away from? Links to any you'd recommend? Thanks!

i am by no means a TV expert but we picked up a 42" vizio for christmas and it looks really really good for the money spent. I was skeptical given that vizio is the walmart brand, but i was pleasently surprised by the picture quality.

This is the one we got. HD channels look great, xbox looks great, movies look great, etc. It takes some playing with the color to get things to look right and the screen is really really bright (like the whites burn my retinas). But for $1000, its a pretty sweet deal.
