I could be completely wrong here, but I would pick a good lifting program and really focus on power. Work on explosiveness and core strength.

Diet can be found in the stickies

do a lot of upper body and don't worry about training your legs... all you need for legs is hockey.

as above, hockey = legs. do lots of core work + stretching + lots of wall sits.

IMO, one of the best ways to get in shape for hockey IS to just play hockey. the more you play the more conditioned your legs will get

legs+core. do some rotator exercises and work on your shoulders/arms. esp your forearms. Yeah legs and core will get you balance and speed/agility. but who doesnt want that blazing slapper/wrister?

Yeah sprinting and explosive activities. Nothing that lasts for more than a solid 30 some seconds, and just do as many sets as you can.

If you're just starting hockey you won't get big legs unless you're a good skater, so doing work on your legs is still probably a good idea. If you knew how many times a week you played that would be a help. If its 2-3 times a week, then probably just a few squats or what not would help. Squating muscles aren't really the same as skating muscles, but it will definetely help.

I'm actually a really really good skater but need work on the explosiveness of hockey and my upper body. What're good sprint exercises to do? And actually, what should I be eatin through all this?

I would disagree with this, it's the same mistake a lot of basketball players and cyclists make—thinking they don't need to train legs.

Core and more explosive movements (cleans, hang cleans, deadlifts, squats, front squats). If you're playing in a checking league, upper body strength is important though.

Some guys in IM leagues play like it's the Stanley Cup every weekend.

Fail successfully achieved. In case any one didn't pick up the sarcasm - it was sarcastic.

Yes you need to work legs, your skating isn't enough.
