    For a lot of reasons,

First, before the event I figured if he lost it was because he really couldn't pull much takedown wise against Sylvia or got TKO'd..I thought his conditioning would have been better.

Second, I thought if he took Sylvia to the ground he would have been able to submit him or do some better GNP. When he was in side control, if he took the mount I think he could have finished it by sitting high on Sylvia's chest..240 lbs on your ribs, low center of gravity, etc..

Third, because Monson is such an awesome guy. He's someone who actually has an opinion about the world and cares, it was great seeing him coming out to John Lennon's "Imagine."

Hopefully he will get another chance later. :hs:

after all the botched takedown attempts, i wish he would have just pulled gaurd and swept him to gain position.

it was a frustrating match to watch for sure.

After the first few failed takedown attempts I was hoping he would try something different, possible get into a clinch and try to push him up against the fence, then drop drop down to a double-leg. :dunno:

Monson lost that fight before it ever started. He had no confidence and it showed. Too bad, I like him and I wanted to see him win.:hs:

I thought he should have just rushed him up against the cage and tried for a take down from there or backed up to the cage and went for a clinch of some sort.

the loss suck becasue what is there now for him in the UFC, sort of like AA until silvia loses there is not much.

Another lackluster title defense by Sylvia really doesn't gain him any fans.

I gotta give him some props for doing what it took to win the match, but people are itching to see him get beat, or put on a better show. Vera seems to be the only worthy opponent currently.

I'm also hoping Monson can bounce back and win his next match. He's just a likeable fighter.

I'd just like to not have to watch Tim Silvia fight anymore.

I'd like to see him ship off to Pride, or have Alex Emelianenko come over here. Silvia's in desperate need of a reality check.

That fight was so painful to watch... Monson's take-downs getting stuffed time after time... I was out of my seat cheering when he finally got it in the 3rd round (or was it 2nd??), but unfortunately he just couldn't do anything with it... IMHO, Tim as champion is a BORING fighter. He looked like instead of trying to finish the fight, he was just trying to do well enough not to lose his precious belt... Not that I totally blame him, but as a fan, I'd like to see a more exciting fight out of a champion...

    Imagine good heavyweight fighting
    I wonder if you can
No need for beer or booing
    A brotherhood of man
    Imagine all the people
    Sharing all the world

You may say that I'm a dreamer
But I'm not the only one
I hope someday you'll join us
And the world will live as one

I've never even seen Silvia fight. His 'skill' begins and ends with being 6'8.

I really thought that the fight would end in death somewhere in the first round. I mean... Monson looks almost exactly like "the thing" from the fantastic 4. Sylvia was just too tall/big I guess...

In the first few takedown attempts Monson would dive in, Sylvia would sprawl, and monson would turn on his side (almost on his back) and try to Stooge walk his way over to Sylvias back. I've never seen this before. Is this a jiu jitsu technique? In wrestling the first thing they taught us was to stay on your feet so you can keep driving or spin off to the side.

I was out of my seat in the 3rd when monson passed tims guard, but i just think the height difference was too much to overcome. Tim's sprawl puts his legs much too far back out of reach for anything but the perfect shot.

He was trying to scoot around to guard/half guard. Sylvia did a good job of keeping his weight on Monson so he couldn't.

True. The only time in an MMA fight I've ever wanted someone to fall back and go for a leg sub.

Sylvia only showed life on the ground, which was interesting to say the least. He did more offense on the ground then he did standing. I give him credit for showing his skills there, but the rest of the fight was boring. Fighting "to not lose" rather than fighting to win.

I hate to be in the "if he were shorter/if monson had 2 ore inches of arm" camp, but really, he's just playing defense (which mind you i give him props for because he KNOWS how to uses what he has to greta advantage). it's just boring and annoying to watch.

plus, I was disheatened by Monson's seeming lack of confidence in himself as son as he walked in.
