Anyone else seem to feel like there hands are tied with this ordeal? I am talking about taking 1 1/2 hours to drop when pinned down, not being allowed to use all of our resources, etc, etc. I heard it called Operation Epic Fail, then my buddy said no, Operation Extremely Familiar, in reference to when our fathers were in Vietnam. Agree/Disagree :ugh2:

I haven't been to Afghanistan (just Iraq), but I would believe it. War is so complex these days.

Today you just have to understand we are not just soldiers/marines/airman/seaman anymore we are a lot more. The ROE is strict because we are expected to be diplomats and ambassadors on top of everything else. I know many of you will say that this is BS, but it is realistic. We cannot shove a rifle in every Afghanis face and expect them not to hate us and side with the current enemy insurgens.

Now don't get me wrong the strictness of the ROE both pisses me off and scares me. I could be expected to defend myself for simply defending myself in war, but I see where it is coming from and understand why it has come to what it has.

Bagdhis and Herat, ROE is very strict but I believe we should be allowed to protect ourselves with necessary available assets! if there is a known enemy attacking us in the open (nearest village over 5km away) it shouldnt take 1 1/2 hours to drop when air is 10 mins away ya know?

yeah well thank all your fucking buddies before you who fucking dropped shit loads of bombs on civilian targets killing way more then the 30:1 ratio of collateral damage. Even 30:1 was fucking ridiculous. Stop bitching and fight the good fight man.

I don't agree with this at all. We are still the same and are expected to do the same job, just with much less now. And when higher asks something of us, we accomplish it just how we were trained. Always place the mission first. But what's happening is all those big wigs are expected to live up to the opinions, bitches, gripes and complaints of the American public, and the rest of the free world for that matter. If we dropped a bomb on OBL but killed 10 civilians in the process, there would be plenty of people with an issue with the civilian casualties. It's the people we fight for, not us.

You are right that it should not. Review the current CAS rules, and then check to see who your JTAC is... IE American fighting under Operation Enduring Freedom, or under ISAF, or not American, under ISAF. Also, see if your JTAC is a TACP or a combat controller. Just remember the planes matter too. If they Aint "Merican, they Aint droppin. :sadwavey:
