    Say, someday, a guy wanted to import a SBS. Said SBS is manufactured in Canada. Can it be done? I know you can build them with the proper forms and a $200 tax stamp, but what about just buying one?

    I'm not up on importing laws from Canada to the US but IIRC they have some pretty ridiculous ones. Unfortunately, I have a feeling the easiest thing to do was to permanently attach some sort of extension to bring the barrel to the legal length (does this work with shotguns?) then send in your stuff to cut it down after you get it in.

    I think if it's already an SBS it's treated like a post 86 MG, meaning mere mortals cannot have it.

    But I don't think Canada has SBR or SBS laws. I could be wrong though.

    Canada treats them as AOW's, I believe. Suprisingly, they are allowed to own them.

    Because the company that manufactures/modifies them is based in Canada. Maybe I could just buy an 870 here, send it to them to mod, and have'em ship it back????

    Just thought of that. That might actually be the easier way to do it.

    Our neighbors in canadia have different gun laws...with no rational basis behind them (gun laws, not canadians...i dont know enough canadians to say) its not that surprising.

    Non-restricted firearms are ordinary rifles and shotguns, other than those referred to below.

    Restricted firearms include:

    * handguns that are not prohibited;
    * semi-automatic, centre-fire rifles and shotguns with a barrel shorter than 470 mm (about 18.5 inches);
    * rifles and shotguns that can be fired when their overall length has been reduced by folding, telescoping or other means to less than 660 mm (about 26 inches); and
    * firearms restricted by Criminal Code Regulations.

    Prohibited firearms include:

    * handguns with a barrel length of 105 mm (about 4.14 inches) or less and handguns that discharge .25 or .32 calibre ammunition, except for a few specific ones used in International Shooting Union competitions;
    * rifles and shotguns that have been altered by sawing or other means so that their barrel length is less than 457 mm (about 18 inches) or their overall length is less than 660 mm (about 26 inches);
    * full automatics;
    * converted automatics, namely full automatics that have been altered so that they fire only one projectile when the trigger is squeezed; and
    * firearms prohibited by Criminal Code Regulations

    My understanding is a "restricted" license is fairly easy to get. Short shotguns are legal if you buy them that way, scary illegal if you make them that way. Sort of like our once a long/machine gun always a long/machine gun laws.

    Seems like it would be more work then it's worth.

    Unless you're getting it free it's probably not worth it.

    Check around, I'm sure there's plenty of 07/SOTs here in the states that are able to do that to a regular 870 and it will end up being cheaper and a lot less hassle shipping firearms between countries.

    Kinda looking that way. But I was bored, and curious, so I thought I'd ask.

    That is the answer to your problems. Oh, and it's only a $5 AOW tax as opposed to the SBS $200 tax.

    It only holds two in the mag tube, as opposed to what looks like maybe 3 in the one you posted.

    Yea, I've seen that one, but I don't much care for it for some reason. I think it's that folding fore-grip. Just looks funny. :hs:
