I don't know how many officers are on this board, but...would the fact that I am not attending a military academy significantly hurt my career as an officer? That is, slow down the promotion process and other opportunities?

Extra 4 years as a civilian in ROTC?

Or 4 years of being in an extremely controlled military enviroment?

    Not too hard to decide

I remember seeing a statistic a few months ago which basically showed that more than 85% of all general officers were commissioned through a military academy, 10% were shit hot prior enlisted, and the remaining ~5% were just miscellaneous.

It won't affect how fast you get promoted but depending on what school you go to it can help get your foot in the door with your COs.
