I've asked before, but forgot what the answer was...

I need a program for linux that will let me browse through directories... I then shows me the directory listing with tiled thumbnails of the pictures. Preferably allowing me to set the tile size, but anything from 75-150px is fine. Then I can double-click the image to open it, move it around the screen, resize it, zoom it, etc. Then open multiple images and have them all open at once.

The ability to save a workspace (open images, sizes, and positions) would be a huge plus, but not required.

Under the Windows platform, I use Jasc PaintShopPro with much success. Any ideas for a linux-compatible client?

I'll give it a try... but I don't want something to auto-find pictures, tho.

GQview works fine for me, although it doesn't allow the editing of pictures so you would have to use an external editor too.

I don't need to edit them (I can open in gimp for that)... Just need the thumbnail/browse/resize/multi-open functions..

    I'll check out GQview... brb.

at first glance, gqview appears to only be able to open one image at a time.

I need to be able to open many images, move them around, zoom them, etc.

24MB, and Wine is built in. This is google we're talking about. Its not a bad hack. Dude... Picasa is the best image viewing program on earth. Have you tried it? It kicks the shit out of anything out there. Its some of the best software created in the last few years, in any domain. Possibly the very best thing created in the last 5 years. Picasa is amazing. Its like Super Mario Bros when it first came out. Or Street Fighter 2.

yes, well, from what I gather, it doesn't even do what I want.

I need an image browser that displays tiled thumbnails and can *open multiple images in seperate windows, move them around in a collage, and then zoom some, whatever*

Picasa's zoom is the best. And I believe it will open in separate windows if you want.

one of the few benefits of all that bloat you have to deal with. What program does it load them with?

I'm a fan of gthumb. I think you rejected it last time we had this thread, but I don't remember why.

not to hijack, but what does everybody use for their macs? Preview works decently, but i'm looking for something a little more sexy and easy to use like the pic viewer that comes with winXP

I rejected it again, today. It only loads one pic at a time, and does so in a frame within the same window. Doesn't work for me. I can right click and "open with" but then I need a good image viewer (I currently have xloadimage which is lightweight, but doesn't allow for zooming) and gthumb doesn't remember the preference, so i have to do it each time.

    gthumb is out.

Ah, right, that's what you didn't like about it. Couldn't view thumbnails and big image at the same time.

Electric Eyes has functionality like that, but I haven't been able to find it in years.
