If I want to just host a simpleviewer gallery somewhere, what do I need to do?

    Im seriously at a loss.

I guess I need some space somewhere? How do I get that?
And then I need to get a domain name or something?

basically you could do it all together. You'd find a host, they could likely register whatever domain name you have in mind. My host is super cheap, fast, and very easy to work with. Once you have it set up, you'd download the simpleviewer gallery files, edit them according to your needs, then upload them via FTP.

    Here is what I did:

Purchased domain & hosting through Dreamhost.com for $112/year. There are cheaper ones out there i'm sure, but I have practically unlimited bandwidth, unlimited storage, a wealth of add-ons that they'll install for me, and haven't experienced any downtime in 2 years.

I then use Lightroom to create simpleviewer galleries, upload via Lightroom, and they're ready to go. It's fucking hella simple. ;)

I really like lightroom galleries, and there are other templates out there also.

I do. And I might just stick with that. Its a lot cheaper than paying to get all the other stuff right now. With 44 days until my wedding, money is at a premium..

I went through GoDaddy.com about bought a domain name. Then from inside your GoDaddy account you can purchase how much space you want.

From there you can use a FTP client like FileZilla or GoDaddy offers templates of certain kinds you can click through.

If want this to take this direction just let me know if you need more help. :)

    really, you just need to:
    1 Buy Domain Name
2 Buy hosting (1 and 2 can come from different companies)
3 Set up ftp user name/pass
    4 set up email
5 plug info from 3 in to LR, and you're good to go

you can also buy a cheapo html or flash site to work with your LR galleries, so you have a home page with some substance

Go Daddy is cheaper, but i don't think they'll match this with their lower end services.

I have other uses for it but $110/year for domain name and practically unlimited hosting isn't a bad deal IMO.

Does GoDaddy offer something similar for renewing customers year after year? Do they offer software packages that are "one-click" offers? I'm not being a smartass, i'm asking respectfully.

    :dunno:

Thats why i asked if it was for more than web galleries.

Unlimited is great if you have a need for it, but for adam's intended purposes thats far more than needed.

And what do you mean software packages?
