    430exII or 580exII

    eeeeniiiieee meeeenieeee minieeeee mo......

On one hand, I save 100 bucks with the 430..

on another hand, the 580 is more powerful, takes external battery packs, and controls any other EX flash I get int he future.

    I hate decisions like this..

Ive also got the 17-40L or 24mm L on other screens :noes:

if you need a wireless flash.. you might be better off buying the 430 and getting radiopoppers than getting a 580 and using the infrared

No, you do want IS, everyone does. You just dont know if it is worth the price to you. go with the non IS and then you will be mad every time you use that you just did not get the IS version.

and about this topic - I have the 550. Got it for like 225 shipped, does everything the 580 does but it loses like 10 feet of covereage (55m vs 58m) and the recycle time is faster although with fresh batteries the recycle time is very quick on the 550

I have both and the 580II is much nicer. I'd spend the extra money for the 580.

Not only is the 580 more powerful, but the head has full 360 degree rotation. A major design flaw in the 430 (imo) is that it rotates 180 degrees to the left but only 90 degrees to the right. This makes shooting in portrait orientation and trying to rotate the flash head very inconvenient. Why didn't Canon design it to rotate 180 degrees to the right instead of the left!!! :ugh:

The 430 is much more compact though. I take it with me when I want to carry less gear.

Unless I can get this 580 off craigslist for 320(they havent written back), then i'll be buying a

430exII, with corded hotshoe adapter and custom bracket all for 375.
