    How bad was it?

Where there rumors of it happening beforehand like there have been this time?

Did people go ape shit and start buying up everything like they're doing now?

Once the new ban passes and everything calms down what exactly is it going to affect? I haven't read the bill but is it just cosmetic shit like last time?

There was a massive amount of buying, yes.

The various provisions I've seen for it this time around have gone a little past cosmetics, though they're still included. Suffice to say it seems someone came along behind them and told them where they screwed up last time.

Yes, WE did. The gun owning public. Bradyites aren't stupid, they're just incapable of understanding personal responsibility.

There is no single "Mastermind" working on a complete gun ban, it is, like fighting, a mindset. Justices come and go, senators rise and fall, but the mentality that people are ultimately NOT responsible for what they do to others, and so must have freedoms curtailed, be it speech, guns, or privacy, is the vehicle for these machinations.

I couldn't buy an AR15 with threaded barrel and bayonet lug. I still bought one, though- a new Rock River LAR-15. It's been my favorite hunting rifle for nearly a decade. I think this new "better" ban is going to be a lot more inclusive, because they know the first one didn't work.

    Good info. :h5:

I really only recall stuff from the first AWB because I was just starting to get bigger into guns, especially with my dad. That's where I hear about alot of it.

No more regular capacity mags for handguns, will be limited to 10 rounds again. So if you have the cash, buy all the mags you can afford. I've even purchased some for guns I don't own yet, but might down the road.

I wouldn't be suprised if they go after rifle mags this time, AK's & AR's.

I remember when HK G3/91 mags went from $90-$100 all the way to $1 a piece.

That was funny. Other than that, I dont remember much about the last ban.

hopefully its far-reaching enough to be easily dismissed as unconstitutional.

I've been doing this lately. My goal is to have ~10 mags for each pistol and ~20 mags per rifle I have or will buy in the future. I'm a little behind that goal, especially if I figure in the guns I'd LIKE to have. :(

I was arround for the first ban. It was worse in some ways and less hyped in others.

There was a good amount of panic buying but it was for good reason. I don't think it was to the level that it is today. If you wanted a AR lower or upper just prior to the first ban you could get one. The first ban was more heaviliy focused on high cap magazine with a national ban on AW with certain features. In CA of course it was a little more intense as it was against all AW. You could register your existing AW's and it would be grandfathered but many people were concerned that they would just come and take all the registered AW's now they knew who had them. Thus many people did not register at all or registered only a portion of what they had.

After the ban magazine prices went through the roof. For example going price of a usgi AR mag was $35 (they used to be like 1/3rd that) and glock mags new in wrapper were $100, used $65.

There is a lot of speculation of the reach of this next ban. Whatever the case although it hurts it is probably better to get what you think your going to need before it happens.

All mags were restricted to 10rds, not just handguns. There was a large enough surplus and low enough demand for AR mags that prices never rose significantly. Many other magazines that rose to $100 or more per mag because there weren't as many of them available.

The current bans on the table are talking about banning ANY semi-auto capable of taking a removable magazine.

Your 10/22 just got dubbed an assault weapon.

It's fair to say they'd like to shove this through now so it's a distant memory in the public mind by the time midterm elections come around and everyone is happy about the economy rebounding.

Interesting also that Obama/the dems in general will go after a very large and fairly successful industry that employs thousands in the middle of a recession/depression.

the first AWB was worthless at stopping crime.

The revisions that have been made to the new AWB though add so much more legalize that it makes anything with a "grip" classified as an assault weapon unless it's a single shot weapon.

its not about stopping crime, its about disarming the american people and not allowing anyone to own firearms.

Criminals turned in all of their "assault weapons", and violent crime was virtually non-existent.
