I need a new laptop and am thinking about getting a macbook vs. a macbook pro. The macbook pro looks pretty sweet but I dont know about spending that much money.

A few months ago I bought my MBP and it was my first mac in a long time and I love it. I was hesitant about spending so much too, but I figured I might as well do it and get the latest technology.

Only buy a MacBook Pro if you plan on doing some heavy video editing or something like that. But for the common user or student, the regular MacBook is just fine. Also, I'd wait till after November 6th because there is a rumor that the MacBooks are going to get updated. On one more note, if this is your first Mac, make sure you have played around with them before you buy. Just buying a Mac because it "looks cool" is a common mistake.

Im not going to be playing games on it, but I would prefer to have the larger screen. I would also like this laptop to last 4-5 years so I want to buy one that will last.

I just like the look of the mbp over the mb, and the my student discount would put the mbp and protection care just over 2000.

I just bought a 24" iMac. LOVE IT!

For mobility I suggest a nice small MacBook, love the tiny screen. My Girlfriend has one. I carry an older 15" around, way to bulky for airplane seats.

It is a good choice in either way to go with the Mac, I just run WindowsXP every now and then in Parallels Desktop.

i believe you have a year from your purchased date to buy applecare... You will need it to extend your warranty.

From the multiple experiences of my friends.. it is HIGHLY recommended to get one... Some people actually got new laptops after a couple years of use because apple couldnt replce the broken parts.

Go with the macbook, I did and I haven't regretted it one bit.

The pro is nice if you need the screen real estate or the video card, but other than that the convenience of the 13.3" form factor rocks my socks.
