Thinking about selling my Saiga 7.62x39 AK, magazines, and ammo to build an AR. I just don't have money to buy an AR unless I get rid of my AK.

Is this a horrible idea? What can I get for a Saiga with only about 100 rounds through it? Just asking, not offering to sell it to the forum. Would sell it locally.

    i would guess 300-350.

personally, i would keep it. I don't like selling guns, and if I were you, I'd just save up for an AR. Prices are going down on AR's as well, so waiting a little while might get you a better deal on one anyways.

    Just my .02

I sold my WASR-2 and 600 rounds of 5.45 for $650 to fund my AR and haven't looked back since. I paid $200 for the rifle, $50 in compliance parts, and $100 for 1080 rounds of ammo, all about a year ago.

Not sure what Saigas go for.

the 7.62's go for 350 to 400 new. The 12 ga. are alot more expensive.

I like the Saiga, but my wife doesn't. For right now I'd rather get something we're both comfortable shooting for when we go to the range together. Until down the road when I can afford to buy and collect multiple rifles, I'm going to stick to one or the other.

    I have about 500 rounds and 10 30-round magazines.

If I sell and try to build an AR, will I have trouble finding an upper? I remember reading about all the month(s) long waiting times people were getting.

  7. AR stuff is much more available now than even a few months ago. You might not be able to find exactly what you want in stock right now, but if it's a common setup you won't wait long.

I'd say you could get close to $700 if you throw in the ammo and mags too. The market is pretty flooded with AKs at the moment, lots of people ditching them after they realized nobody was banning them and ammo is pretty hard to find. the ammo is worth $125-$150 depending on the brand/type and the mags are worth a bit more depending on the brand as well.

That should put you well on your way to starting an AR.

I'd seel it with Thompson's Water Seel. Don't want it to soak up water.

They want $699 for a Yugo underfolder. Jesus, I paid $429 for mine about a year ago. Paid the same for a Romanian underfolder.
