MIL I'm thinking about joining the military

I feel like my life needs a jumpstart, and this thought came out of nowhere today. And I just feel that if I successfully completed a given amount of time in the military that I would feel more respected.

Is it a bad idea for me to join up on just an initial thought, especially when I know little to nothing about how the armed forces work.

I'm athletic, I'd love to get some experience with weapons, I'm intelligent. And I'm just not liking how it feels to go back to college.

Can someone give me some advice, not sided advice like a recruiter would probably give me?

I'm reading the sticky now, so don't flame me, I just didn't think to look.

I was sorta excited to post this for some reason :hs:

I'm about an hour (depending on traffic) north, near Lake Norman.

well it depends, how much credit do you have now
you cant just do a year or two and go in as an officer.. at least not in the af
i know army u can do 2 years and become an lt but need 4 years to make capt
not sure about marines and navy though i think the navy needs 4 years.. though idk

    real advice
figure out what you want to do in the military.. dont look at it as oh well if I do this they will give me this and that.. what can you do for us to make your time worthwhile

I was just looking on the army website and it says you can become an officer with only 2 years, but only in the army reserves, not active duty. :dunno:

Im hate to say it but im from the Fayetteville/Ft.Bragg area.
As far as joining the military I say enlist for a couple of years before you become an officer. All of my favorite officers where noncomissioned before they went OCS. They know what its like to be at the bottom.

It depends if he wants to make a career of the military or just use it to "jump start" his life as he put it.
