I drove a friends Wrangler for a week and kind of liked it, im thinking about getting one. Is there anything I need to know when searching for one? should I even search for one?

    -any good/bad years?
    -hard/soft top?
    -manual tranny holds up well?
    -6cyl reliable?
-I plan on lifting it, any info on that?

Thanks for any info, and websites would be great also...

How much do you want to spend? Need to knwo that before I can answer on years since 97 and newer, are about 100% different from 95 and older.

Soft top is good enough for me and no worrying about breaking $500 glass panels offroad.

Manuals trans in Jeeps hold up jsut fine, some have problems with the AX5 behind the 4cyl but I beat teh crap out of mine and have 40" tires and no problems so far.

6cyl is one of the most reliable engines ever.

Lifting is very general, depends on what size tires you want pretty much

if it only happens when cold its not going to be anything mechanicly wrong with it its probably just grease contaminated with something else somewhere. Clean it out and re lube the latches and it will work fine.

Yea, that's what I figured. It's just kinda uncomforting to be driving down the road and have the door fly open.

I don't really know how much I want to spend yet, pretty much decided yesterday that my car is a money pit and I need something else.

I want TJ, 6cyl, manual tranny, still undecided on hard/soft top...I'm just afraid of the soft top getting tore up, and I heard the windows get scratched easily on the soft tops. What's an average price for a TJ 6cyl with around 50k miles?

Oh, and 99TJ, you said the lifts are expensive, how much are they? Install can be done by me and my friends... and do the radiatora suck or something...?

Soft top windows do scratch easily but the only ones that really have problems with it are the front two just becasue they see so much more use. They only cost $150 to replace though if you have to. I replace mine about every two years but its not getting scratched up alone that kills mine it was repeatedly zipping and unzipping them with mud in the zipper and they would get messed up and not zip up right. But I wheel just about everyweekend when I can

When it get this bad you have to unzip tehm down to see out

As for lifts they aren't that bad, same thing though as before depends on how much you want to spend and what size tires you want to fit. Could be anywhere from $100 to $2k. Most cost somewhere between $400-1000.

and most stock TJ rads are cheap, they crack on the passenger side, where the top hose is, its crimped, and that part goes bad.
