The site would be super user friendly, community oriented and allow people to create listings for used cameras, lenses and accessories.

Is there anything out there already? And if not would you be interested in using the service / site for a small fee?

    Feedback appreciated!!!

it won't be an auction site like ebay, I was thinking that it would be more like Auto Trader where the transaction is carried out between the two people, not through the site. Again... I'm just thinking this through

Also, craigslist is nice, but this site would be centered on a better user experience, the ability to add and organize photos associated with the gear being sold, user profiles for sellers, and strictly for pro / prosumer photographers

not likely to take away from them. theres feedback established, FM now charges to sell so there is a better guarantee that the seller is legit

Maybe there's a way to link to you established forum username via some sort of private message verification system so that users on the new place could link to their feedback on sites like FM...?

Now that FM charges to list on the buy/sell forum then there is an opportunity. FM is now quite gay. :dunno:

do you think that if the price was right, people would list their gear on multiple sites?

The only price that would be right is free, otherwise people will just use ebay.

it might be feasible if i could sell enough advertising... but eBay costs money too, so all I would have to do is "undersell" them on my service to compete

You're going to get crushed by adverse network effects.

There are a shitload of "online classified" type websites... you would need to pay for advertising on other sites for several years to build up a customer base big enough before you could start expecting to charge for advertising.

I honestly wouldn't use it if it weren't free.

I mean if it were free to buy, sure, i'd browse, but if I was selling, I'd try the free outlets first.

There are a TON of outlets to sell shit these days...

:werd: no one is going to pay so they can sell something when you can just go on POTN or similiar sites and sell it for free

If this was 97 instead of 07, you might be on to something. Fabulous idea... just a decade too late.
