Drifted back in my positivity the last little while, time to bring this shit back motha fukkaaaaz. 7 days do not let negative thoughts exist for more than a minute. No negative thoughts about other people, either. If these thoughts are allowed for more than a minute, start back to zero.

    Who's with me?

Thinking positive thoughts for 7 days won't make all your problems go away.

I suggest anybody considering doing this take the "be honest with myself for 7 days" challenge.

have you ever tried it mangggggggggggggggggggggg. I mean this isnt the first time that I've made one of these threads and pretty much every time there is someone or another who says that it's rubbish (and I think I at first thought it was retarded at first) but they... never actually try it. It's actually 1) very surprising how much you realize you're conditioned to think negatively 2) not too easy and 3) wonderful. Don't knock it til you try it. Just like buttsex. ;-)

Yeah, I've tried it. It feels great to do it, but the effects wear off after a couple of days.

At least that's how it affected me. :dunno:

I HAVE been removing a particular thought from my head lately though.

I have a habit of telling myself this:

"You NEED to..." and then I follow it by millions of stupid things I tell myself everyday. I need to do this. I need to do that.

I'm replacing it with "It's time to..."

I think that's a more positive way of looking at things. I think the first way actually breeds procrastination wheras the second provides an urgency that doesn't make it as negative.

    I dunno about it though.

I've discovered, though, that the biggest help in my life was when I started being brutally honest with myself. It was then that I started growing in leaps and bounds.

Did you do it properly? For a FULL WEEK and not a SINGLE negative thought was allowed for more than a minute? Or did you kinda sorta do it for a few days and yeah you got pissed off a few times but you did it mostly correct? After a full solid week of relentless conditioning, i've found that even unconsciously i am in a much better mood and more positive for a while after, and then after weeks i might go back to worse thought patterns if i don't watch myself

    the two aren't mutually exclusive

I did it last year for thirty days during Ramadan (during daylight hours)
Of course it doesn't fix your problems, the point is to gain some perspective and work on your outlook.

I have so much fucking hw, this shit will never get done,
    versus
I have so much fucking hw, better get started now so I can get it all done in time for coffee at nine.

you can be totally honest with yourself AND be positive at the same time. positivity (done properly) isn't about omitting things from your perception or avoiding negative experiences. It's about experiencing everything but being able to reframe it in your mind in a positive fashion to keep yourself happy; and probably even more importantly, in a good (read: resourceful) state so that you can accomplish things instead of being choked into wary inaction through your lack of emotional wellbeing.

It's about realizing that nothing is either good or bad, but thinking makes it so (credit to my boy willie shakespeare), and that whether you look at a seemingly disadvantageous event and laugh about how ridiculous it is, or instead get super pissed off and can't concentrate and do important things, is a choice that you make IN YOUR OWN MIND that is completely under your control.

I can get on board with this then.

I thought the positivety challenge involved thinking pretty thoughts all the time and lying to yourself and saying shit like "i'mthe best! I'm the best! I'm the best" ala Clubber Lang.

    Good luck broseph :bigthumb:

I'll keep my negativity though, I hate people naturally and not hating them would take away my fun... if that makes any sense

Good luck. It's difficult and I gave up.

What worked good for me is being 100% honest to everyone (as in Radical Honesty) for 5 days. Including things like telling someone I don't want to hang out with them instead of just saying "I'm busy".

It's tough but my relationship with friends has become very honest because of it and a lot healthier IMO.

It also helped with doing homework because I couldn't lie to myself about why I didn't put in an extra extra effort. Instead of "I don't need to" it became "no, you're just too lazy" -- and then I got back to work.

    Positivity is a difficult one.

    1. write it in sharpie on the back of your hand
    2. No your just quiting before you even gave this a chance. You have a minute to find something else to think about it. It cant be that hard to pick up something new mentally.
    3. You really need to do this out of anyone if you think theres more negative than positive in the world :mamoru:

Id recommend you go take a hike by yourself and just admire nature. Don't leave till you can respect what it has to offer to it's full degree with full positivity. At least that helps me.
